Bomb Experts Investigate Halloween Prop
OSLO, NORWAY— A police bomb squad raced across Norway by helicopter Thursday to investigate a mysterious, wired package that turned out to be a discarded Halloween prop left behind by a young man who had dressed up as a suicide bomber.
I thought this article would be appropriate because it involved Halloween. When I first read it, I was shocked by the reaction of bringing in Bomb Experts. Then I realized the magnitude of the situation – all precautions should be made. We should expect the worst, but hope for the best. Do anything in our power to prevent the tragedies that have happened in the past. Thus, when the package was found (with wires sticking out of it) at 9:00AM, the driver did the right thing. He called the Bergen police department. The ‘bomb’ was located outside of a student dormitory, Alerk (Bergen). It was necessary to evacuate this dormitory and the closer area- just in case.
As stated in the article, the bomb made ”national news.” Obviously the creator of the bomb (his name was withheld) did not intend for this to occur. It was merely a part of his halloween costume – intended for detail, not threat. I think he did the right thing by calling the police after he heard about the incident. As of now, he is not being charged with anything, but this may change. In my opinion, I do not think it is appropriate to take action against the boy. What do you think?

Maybe if somebody just walked up to the object and took a good look at it they would’ve realized it was not real. I mean, what police officer could be fooled that much. I’m sure it was just plastic and cardboard. The boy is innocent, he forgot his halloween prop. It’s the authority’s fault for being so stuboorn. At least they took full precautions. Still, I bet one good look at it up close would’ve changed everything and not caused so much outrage.

You may think it was overreacting but we are living in some serious times where at a point an airborne disease was sent through mail! We do have to be very precautious now a days. It does mean to go stir crazy and if you see some grated Parmesean cheese on a table, you think its anthrax. It just means be aware of your surrounding and be cautious.

I think this kid should have known better and I’m actually suprised that he did’nt encounter a problem while he was wearing the costume. Just because it was Halloween doesn’t mean that someone dressed as a suicide bomber isn’t actually a suicide bomber. In fact I have found that people tend to do crazy things on Halloween, all the more reason why this kid should have been considered a potential threat. If the kid was just at a party where everybody knew than I can understand but if I was to see walking around in public I would be concerned. I also think he should have realized that when he got rid of it there was the possibility that someone would find it and initially percieve it as a bomb, in which case who would want to get closer to find out.
